Williston State College Announces Revamped Business Program, Launching Fall 2025

Posted: Mar 28 2025

Williston, ND — Williston State College is excited to unveil a major revamp to its Business program, effective Fall 2025. What was previously known as the Business Management program will now relaunch under the broader and more inclusive title of Business Administration—bringing with it more flexibility, more focus, and more future-ready options for students.

"This change reflects where the business world is headed and where our students want to go," said Leah Windnagle, Associate Professor of Business and Business Program Coordinator. "We’re creating pathways that not only prepare students for the workforce, but also give them choices based on their goals—whether that’s climbing the corporate ladder, launching a business, or transferring to a four-year university."

How the new program works:
Students will complete a solid foundation of core business courses, including:
  • Accounting I & II
  • Principles of Management
  • Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
  • Cooperative Education (CoOp)

Students will also choose from four specialized options to tailor their learning:
  • Administration – Designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution
  • Management – Focused on leadership and operational skills
  • Marketing – Centered on branding, promotion, and market strategy
  • Entrepreneurship – Built for future business owners and innovators

Upon graduation, students will earn an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration, with the option to specialize in Administration, Management, Marketing, or Entrepreneurship. Students may also pursue multiple options, giving them the edge in a competitive job market.

"This revamp empowers students to go beyond general studies and dive deep into what they’re passionate about," said Windnagle. "It’s about giving them the tools they need, right now, to succeed after graduation."

Looking Ahead: Career-Focused Certificates
WSC also plans to offer a suite of professional certificates in the near future, including:
  • Leadership
  • Human Resources
  • Finance
  • Marketing
These certificate programs are being designed for individuals already in the workforce who are looking to upskill or move into new roles. While not available yet, they’re on the horizon as part of WSC’s continued effort to support career growth in the region.

The move from "Business Management" to "Business Administration" not only better reflects the expanded curriculum—it also sets the stage for students to specialize earlier, graduate stronger, and hit the ground running.
