TrainND Northwest at Williston State College is encouraging veterans, active-duty military members, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and eligible military family members to take advantage of a grant-funded opportunity to earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Through the grant, TrainND Northwest will provide CDL training assistance for at least 11 eligible participants, helping members of the military community gain the skills and credentials needed to pursue careers in the commercial transportation industry. Eligible participants include current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, members of the National Guard and Reserves, as well as their spouses and children.

Under the grant structure, participants enroll in TrainND Northwest’s Class A CDL program through the standard enrollment process and are responsible for the initial program costs. Upon successful completion of the program and fulfillment of grant requirements, eligible participants will be reimbursed for covered training costs.

“This funding gives us an opportunity to remove a significant financial barrier for veterans, military members and their families who are interested in entering the commercial driving industry,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. “A Class A CDL can open the door to a wide range of employment opportunities, and we want to make sure eligible individuals throughout our region know that this assistance is available to them.”

Eligibility Requirements

To participate through the grant-funded track, applicants must provide documentation verifying their status as a veteran, active military member, National Guard or Reserve member, or qualifying spouse or child. All other registration and enrollment requirements follow TrainND Northwest’s standard CDL enrollment process.

The initiative is designed to expand access to workforce training while supporting individuals and families who have served or continue to serve in the U.S. military. Commercial drivers remain an important part of the regional workforce, particularly across industries including transportation, agriculture, construction, energy and logistics.

How to Get Started

Funding is limited, and interested individuals are encouraged to contact TrainND Northwest as soon as possible to determine eligibility and begin the enrollment process.
