WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College (WSC) will host their third annual WSC Holiday Concert, Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Williston, ND.
Members of the WSC Concert Choir will join forces with the Williston Strings and members of the Williston City Band to perform a variety of Christmas music that will end with a carol sing-along.
"In total there will be nearly 45 people performing which includes students from WSC and community members," Dr. Kyle Norris, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the Williston City Band explained. "We are very fortunate to have such a good turn out of participants."
Norris started the tradition of the WSC Holiday Concert in 2013 when he began his teaching position at Williston State College.
"Our holiday concert focuses on Christmas music, and occasionally standard classical repertoire will be performed," Norris stated. "The groups participating in our concert have participated in other performances around Williston during the holiday season."
For the past three years, the Williston Strings have performed at the reception held at the James Memorial Art Center after the Christmas lights are turned on in Harmon Park. The brass section of the Williston City Band has played for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Kick-off since 2014, and an ensemble of tuba, sousaphone, baritone, and euphonium players have participated in TubaChristmas.
"TubaChristmas is an annual event that I have directed twice since moving to Williston," Norris explained. "All of the events that happen in December between these different groups culminate at our WSC Holiday Concert each year. It is quite impressive."
The WSC Holiday Concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door and will benefit the WSC Music Department.
