Welding Students Raffle Off Smokers in May

Posted: Mar 24 2017

WILLISTON, N.D. - In a continued effort to raise funds for the Welding department, WSC student welders have built two pit/smoker grills that will be raffled off May 1, 2017. Winners have a chance at one of the two 64"x20" pit/smoker/grills or $500 in cash.

After successfully auctioning off two trailers in January, WSC's Welding Instructor, Tim Delorme, thought creating more auction items would continue the students' on-the-job experience and help raise further funds for the department.

"Having students incorporate print reading and fabrication in a project gives them experience with something they might do in a working shop someday," stated Delorme. "Building these smokers and the two trailers has given my students an objective to complete and a networking opportunity."

Students began selling $20 raffle tickets on March 17. Tickets will be available until May 1, 2017 at 12 p.m. when the winners will be announced in the front lobby of the CTE (Western Start Building) on WSC's Campus.

Tickets are currently available for purchase in the front lobby of the CTE building Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 1at 12 p.m.

Winners do not need to be present to win. Purchasing a ticket is not a charitable donation. All proceeds remaining after the supply costs are covered will be used for student travel expenses to attend Skills USA, a career and technical student organization that hosts a convention once a year or for program related field trips.
