WILLISTON, N.D. - Shawn Postovit, now a sophomore at WSC, continues to prepare for a music performance tour of Europe this summer 2019 as part of the Northern Ambassadors of Music.
Nominated by his band and choir director from Tioga, Ella Lewis, Postovit joins the select honor group of around 300 students from North Dakota and Montana.
Postovit received his acceptance letter in April 2018, followed by a congratulatory letter from Governor Doug Burgum.
From Tioga, Postovit began the French Horn in 6th grade and was in band and choir throughout high school. As part of the tour, Postovit will perform both with the French Horn and as a Tenor vocalist.
From July 9 until July 24, 2019, Postovit and his fellow ambassadors will visit England, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, and Germany.
The tour includes a concert band, concert choir, and a jazz ensemble and the groups will perform American pieces.
"American marches and the American style are apparently really popular in Europe," explained Postovit. Postovit still needs to raise funds for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
"I have to raise $6,400 by November 15," admitted Postovit. "This includes round trip airfare, hotel stays, meals, and an extended trip to Greece."
Postovit raised some money working full-time this summer as a Pulse Crop Scout with the NDSU Research Center in Williston.
A potluck will be held on Friday, October 5 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Student Life area on campus in an effort to raise money for Postovit's trip.
Postovit plans on visiting local businesses and asking for sponsorships.
A Regional County Scholarship recipient, Postovit graduates this year and intends to transfer to NDSU to double major in Agriculture Education and Music Education.
"I will continue with the French Horn at NDSU and I hope to join NDSU's Gold Star marching band and play the mellophone," said Postovit.
