WSC Student Organization Gear Up for Halloween Week

WILLISTON, N.D. - For the last few weeks, WSC student organizations have been cooking up ways to get involved in the community. With Halloween approaching, the Student Nursing Organization, Resident Assistants, Phi Theta Kappa, and all saw their opportunities.

Williston State's Student Nursing Organization (SNO), comprised of WSC nursing students, focus on the promotion and educational advancement of student nurse. Throughout the year they try to put on events to give back to the community and raise funds for their department.

This fall SNO will be hosting an event, Trick or Treat for Hunger, which will run through the entire week of Halloween, Monday through Friday. The event will be a food drive with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army, a local food pantry.

"We are coming together to collect donated goods and give back to the community," said Heather Fox, SNO member. "This is our way of showing that there is always a little time to help others."

Food items can be dropped off in bins located at Williston State College, Trinity Christian, McVay, or Hagen Schools. SNO members will also be going out on Halloween night, traveling door-to-door collecting food items for the pantry. They plan to be visiting Williston area homes from approximately 5pm to 9pm.

While SNO is spreading their efforts throughout the week, the Resident Assistants (RA's) and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) are focusing their energies on Halloween night by joining the 17th Annual Trail of Treats, hosted by the Williston Downtowners Association.

"When the RA's approached me about doing something to celebrate Halloween, I thought this [Trail of Treats] was a perfect fit," Kayla McKeil Director for Marketing. "I knew our newly renovated front drive would provide safe and easy access to pedestrian and vehicle traffic."

Once turned on to the idea of Trail of Treats, it didn't take long for the RA's to include PTK, an honor-based service organization, in the planning. With willing and excited participants and a great space, things came together quickly.

As the parameters of Trail of Treats suggests, the RA's and PTK will be handing out treats to children 12 and under from 2:30pm - 5:30pm on Thursday, October 31st. Treats will be given out on the newly renovated front drive at WSC which is located on the west side of campus, running along University Avenue.
