WILLISTON, N.D. - The signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society (ACS), Relay For Life, will be hosted for the second year in a row on Williston State College's campus, Saturday, July 30.

The Upper Missouri Relay for Life, part of the Great West Division of the ACS, has raised over $200,000 annually since 2010. As a result, it has been considered a Mega Event and has been recognized as a nationwide fundraising event. 

"With 44 teams registered, the Upper Missouri Relay For Life intends to raise over $245,000 this year," Pamela Stromme, Media Lead for the 2016 Upper Missouri Relay for Life explained. "The teams have been fundraising all year long. The funds raised are dedicated to eliminating cancer through research, education, service and advocacy."

This year's theme is, "Paint Your World Purple." Teams are encouraged to decorate their campsites to reflect this theme. Setup for the event will begin Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 a.m. Team registration starts at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Opening Ceremonies and Survivor's Lap at 3:15 p.m.

Unlike last year, Relay For Life will be on a Saturday and will not be an overnight event. The Luminaria Ceremony will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be followed by fireworks at 11:30 p.m.

"The Front Lawn at the College is the perfect place with a lot of exposure to the community," stated Stromme. "Throughout the day, there will be several family friendly activities and we encourage everyone to come out and participate."

WSC's Team will host a Relay For Life garage sale at the WSC President's home, located across from WSC, Friday, July 29 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to this year's Relay For Life event. Feel free to stop by and make a donation to a great cause.
