WILLISTON, N.D. - Seven Williston State College students working as grounds crew on campus will receive in-service training from TrainND on safety procedures and job appropriate equipment this summer.
The student grounds crew, which began in May 2014, were hired to maintain the campus' curb appeal. Responsibilities include moving laws, weed control, reseeding and plant care. The extra helps allows the regular maintenance crew to focus on internal projects, such as painting walls and waxing floors, to prepare buildings for the fall semester.
Currently, the grounds crew is working with TrainND on safety. The students will take a two-hour class on personal protective equipment (PPE), heat exhaustion, pesticide safety and equipment inspection. They will also learn how to organize and conduct weekly safety meetings.
"This is great for the grounds crew to learn and understand the importance of safety and hopefully some can use this in their careers to come," according to Megan Theis, grounds crew supervisor. "We are thankful for the support of TrainND and their willingness to make sure the grounds crew completes their summer jobs safely and correctly."
