Williston N.D. - Teton athletics has unveiled its newest addition, the all new floor of Terry Olson (T.O.) Court in The Well.
T.O. Court has always been a staple of WSC and Teton athletics since 2004, as well has playing host to an assortment of camps, concerts, banquets, and other events. Every decade, it is recommended that a court should be sanded and refinished. The Tetons saw this as an opportunity to capitalize on the current rebranding efforts to create a new iconic look that puts WSC at the forefront of collegiate athletics.
FLR Sanders took on the task of revamping T.O. Court, which started Monday, July 12th with a team of sanders removing the many layers of lacquer and original graphics. The sanding process was completed in five days leaving a blank slate inside The Well. The following Monday, the team of finishers and printers continued work to bring the court back to life.
The arduous task of prepping the floor as well as design and implementation of all the features of the finished product was an astonishing feat of skill. The entirety of the detail work was put in by hand, with only the aid of taped-off borders and image stencils. Final steps of sealing and finishing were completed on the 19th and the court was left to cure until August first. It will be reopened to host competition and events on August 10th.
The new T.O. Court in The Well features a stunning new design: two-tone staining of the hardwood floor, natural wood remains on the inside of the three point arc, and the space outside is died with hazelnut wood stain. Around the court a wide swatch of green defines the boarders and along the baseline "Williston State College" appears revealing the hardwood beneath. The graphic of T.O. Court along each sideline has been modernized to flow with the rest of the court. The focal point players and fans will see when they enter The Well will be the new buffalo mascot of the Tetons at Center court. The large graphic is positioned at center court and uses a technique called ghosting to make the image appear in alternating stained and unstained sections of wood.
The court itself will serve as much more than a site for games and events, the new iconic design will also serve as a recruiting tool for students as well as a selling point for marketing.
WSC President Dr. Raymond Nadolny was asked what the floor says about the college, "The new floor reflects the excellence associated with our teams and our college. The exciting artwork is a testament to the success we have enjoyed."
The finished product has already caused a buzz around campus, exciting future students and faculty for the upcoming year.
"The new floor is something that we are very proud of. It has been a work in progress for the past six months with the foundation director Terry Olson, President Nadolny, and our graphic designer Jenny Wolf. Without them, this addition to our campus and athletic facility would not be possible," stated Athletic Director Eric Peterson. "Our goal was to make appropriate upgrades to modernize the look of the floor. We wanted to have the 'wow' factor when people walked in. I definitely think we accomplished this. There is not another basketball facility like this in the state."
