Two New WSC Employees on United Way Board

Posted: Mar 03 2016

WILLISTON, N.D. - In the past year, both Kim Wenko, TrainND Continuing Education/Marketing Manager, and Jenny Wolf, WSC's Director for Creative Services, have been asked to join the Williston Branch of the United Way Board.

Wolf, who has always been interested in joining a board, jumped at the chance when Sabrina Ramey, Interim Director of the United Way Board, contacted her early this winter. Sheila Goehring asked Wenko to join the Board in June and Wenko has been attending meetings once a month since.

"Kim and I represent two different branches of the college," Wolf noted "TrainND and the College have different interests, constituents, and perspectives that can strengthen the Board overall."

Made of 15 community representatives, the United Way Board provides funding for approximately 30 different nonprofit agencies operating in northwest North Dakota. The Board's primary goal is to support programs in northwest North Dakota such as the Great Plains Food Bank, Williams County Rural Firefighters, the Adult Learning Center, Salvation Army, and the McKinney Vento Homeless Children Program.

"Many of these organizations are too busy fulfilling their programs' missions to concentrate additional resources on fundraising, and rely heavily on United Way," stated Sabrina Ramey, Interim Director of the Basin United Way of Williston. "By leveraging the caring power of the community, local people can help other local people who need a 'hand up'."

Wenko and Wolf will serve as board members for two years. Several members often choose to continue for additional terms.

"I feel it's important to invest in the community that you are living in. It's everyone's responsibility to make Williston a great community," Wenko explained. "We are both honored as WSC employees to have been asked to join this board and make Williston an even better community."
