Student Made Trailers to be Raffled Off

Posted: Jan 04 2017

WILLISTON, N.D. - WSC student welders have built two trailers that will be raffled off January 30, 2017 to raise funds for WSC's Welding program.

The 18 Welding students made a utility trailer (12'x 6.5') and tilt-bed trailer (10'x 6.5'). All supplies used to make the trailers were purchased new with the cost to be recovered by sales proceeds.

"The project took approximately five weeks," explained Tim Delorme, WSC Welding Instructor. "Having students incorporate print reading and fabrication in a project gives them experience with something they might do in a working shop someday."

Students have been selling raffle tickets for $10 since December 14 and will continue until the winners are announced January 30, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the front lobby of the CTE (Western Star Building) on WSC Campus. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Tickets are currently available for purchase in the CTE building, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until January 30 at 4 p.m.

Purchasing a ticket is not a charitable donation. All proceeds remaining after the supply costs are covered will be used for a Skills USA trip an end-of-the-year field trip and materials for the Welding department.

"Even though WSC's Welding Program benefits from the DOL TAACCCT grant as part of TREND (Training for Regional Energy in North Dakota), raffle proceeds help to supplement funding for activities that benefit students," stated Pam Rasmussen, TREND Grant Director and Career Navigator. "It is a great way to get WSC's Welding program the exposure it deserves."

In the past, WSC's Welding students have built campus bike racks, shelves, and parking separators. This is the first time they have participated in a raffle for trailers. If successful, trailer raffles might become an annual project. WSC Welding students will be building BBQ smokers next semester.
