Student Life Kicks Off School Year With Week of Welcome

WILLISTON, N.D. - Since Karissa Kjos began her new role as Student Life Coordinator, she has been preparing the ever-popular Teton Week of Welcome (WOW).

Beginning the first week of class (August 21-27), WOW will help ease first-semester anxieties by guiding new Tetons through an excellent orientation program with resources to help them acclimate college life.

"Throughout the week we hold student-centered events in order to introduce student to the ins-and-outs of the campus, including dining, housing, student services, financial aid, student life, and leadership opportunities," explained Kjos. "Anyone in the student body is welcome to attend."

Sunday, August 21
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Residence Life Move In
1 p.m. - 2 p.m. - Parents Only Info Session
9 p.m. - 10 p.m. - Acoustic Evening with Keesha Renna & Popcorn Bar

Monday, August 22
9 a.m. - 11 a.m. - Student Org Meet & Greet and Yogurt Bar
12 p.m. - Convocation
12:30 - 1:15 p.m. - Breakout Sessions
1:15 p.m. - Campus Scavenger Hunt
4 p.m. - Night Classes Start
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. - Welcome BBQ & Yard Games

Tuesday, August 23
8 a.m. - First Full Day of Classes Start
12 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Student Org Sign Ups
5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - CRU Corn Feed
7 p.m. - Magician Daniel Martin

Wednesday, August 24
1 p.m. - 3 p.m. - Root Beer Floats
9:30 p.m. - Bowling

Saturday, August 27
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Bubble Ball and Kickball
9:30 p.m. - Outdoor Movie - Cool Runnings ***FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Kjos' goal for the upcoming year is to better connect students with the Williston community.

"I want to get our students involved in service projects, community events, and bring in business owners and entrepreneurs to show our students how great Williston really is," explained Kjos.

The last WOW event, the showing of Cool Runnings, is free and open to the community. It will be held Saturday, August 27th at 9:30 p.m. on the WSC Front Quad. Don't forget to bring blankets and lawn chairs and join our Teton family for the evening!
