Petroleum Production Program Moving to Online
Posted: Jan 15 2018
WILLISTON, N.D. -Tech 101 Introduction to Automation (Basic AC/DC) was offered last Fall as an online course for the first time. "This course is designed as an introduction for anyone that wants to learn the basics of alternating and direct current. The class is a combination of electrical theory with a hands-on lab, with virtual simulators to aid in the learning process," explained Petroleum Technology Instructor, Alberto Bellina. The Petroleum Production Technology Automation & Control (A&C) program is on track to offer 95% of the courses online by Fall 2019. TECH 101 was the first course offered fully online in the A&C program. Last semester there were 8 on-campus students and 14 enrolled in TECH 101. Williston High School student Amir Ajbar was one of the online students. Instructor Bellina stated, "Amir came into the college requesting information about the petroleum program. To start I recommended he take TECH 101. The course covers basic knowledge about automation and about the oil industry, and is suited for any student interested in pursuing an oil and gas or automation career. I am happy Amir decided to take the course and proud that he earned the top grade in the course." Bellina further explained, "The world depends so much on power. We sometimes take power for granted and expect it to be reliable and available at all times. The goal of this course is for students to learn more about automation in energy, to prepare them for future courses in the program, and to aid them in most any technology or engineering class they may pursue." TECH 101 is offered as a dual credit class for high school students.
