WILLISTON, N.D. - With volleyball season beginning in August, Williston State College announced a new head coach, Katelyn Christensen, for the 2015-2016 season.
"I am very excited to accept the volleyball head coaching position for WSC," Christensen said. "It is an honor to call myself a Teton and to be part of such a strong tradition of the Teton Athletics."
Christensen, the designated 2015-2016 Teton Assistant Volleyball Coach was offered and accepted the head volleyball coaching position Friday, July 24, after the previous head coach, Jennifer Hartmann, resigned. "Hartmann did a lot for us and we are grateful for the players she recruited for WSC," Dan Artamenko, WSC's Athletic Director, stated. "We wish her nothing but the best." In addition to the head coaching position, Christensen will be WSC's Athletic Coordinator.
No stranger to volleyball, Christensen ended her collegiate volleyball career at Dickinson State University with three winning seasons under her belt, and has coached Junior Olympic volleyball.
After graduating from DSU with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and minors in Coaching and Business, Christensen returned to her hometown. Since 2013, Christensen has served as an Engineering Technician for the City of Williston.
"WSC is very excited that someone from Williston has accepted the position," Artamenko explained. "We really saw big value with Christensen and what she was going to bring to our program. We were lucky that she was willing to take the reins and we are looking forward to a great season."
"August 3 is coming up fast, and I cannot wait to get in the gym to begin preparing for this upcoming season," Christensen explained.
