Furuseth hired to teach Accounting and Spanish classes at WSC

Posted: Jul 07 2010
WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College is pleased to announce the addition of Maren Furuseth to its faculty. She will be teaching Principles of Accounting and Spanish starting with the Fall 2010 semester.

Furuseth, a native of Williston and graduate of Williston High School where she took dual credit courses from WSC, went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Spanish. She has worked at a public accounting firm the past two years, doing auditing and tax work.

She is looking forward to starting her career in academia. "I wanted to try teaching and WSC needed an accounting teacher, so it was a good fit," she said.

With a mother who is a CPA, it was natural that Furuseth would consider a career in the accounting field, but her interest in Spanish was a bit more personal.

"I've always liked foreign languages and wanted to study abroad," she said. "I studied in Spain for one semester, going to college." She took four classes and the program with which she was involved, she was able to travel each weekend, seeing various parts of the Spanish countryside.

She is pleased to be able to get in on the ground floor with some of the new programs and changes being made at the college at this time. "With what the new president (Dr. Raymond Nadolny) is doing and changes he's making, it will be a fun time to get involved as a new member of the faculty," she said. "I think a lot of people believe that the college is like high school and it's not. The changes that are happening will make it better for those transferring out, so they don't get overwhelmed when they get to a bigger school. The president is working hard on this and these changes will be good, especially in the accounting field."
