WILLISTON, N.D. - In its first year in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), Teton Hockey was ranked first in Division II for the West Region, traveled to Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, and now, four of its members have been named as 2016-2017 Academic All-Americans.
Tyler Lodin, Chris Hille, P.J. Silveria, and Olli Jansson, all sophomores, received Academic All-American recognition this year.
Once hockey season concluded, WSC's Athletic Director, Dan Artamenko and Head Hockey Coach, John Bowkus submitted all eligible athletes.
Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Nominees must also have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
GPA and athletic achievements are then reviewed by a committee and new members are selected for the current academic year. Typically, only juniors and seniors are eligible, but because WSC is a two-year institution, sophomores are also eligible.
"These young men exemplify what it means to be a Teton," stated Artamenko. "They are hard workers, on and off the ice. They not only represent the college well, but also the Williston community. I want to congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in their next endeavors."
Assistant captain of the Teton men's hockey team, Lodin (Cologne, MN), plans on attending Colorado State University in Turf Management next year.
Assistant captain of the Teton men's hockey team, Hille (Hampson, VA), has just been named the Frontier Student of the Month for April, is TAB President, Student Ambassador and works as a student worker in Student Services. Hille is majoring in Criminal Justice.
Assistant captain of the Teton men's hockey team, Silveria (Crosby, ND), is active in TAB and is a student worker in the Teton Grill.
