WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College and Teton Men's Hockey will host a Dine to Donate Fundraiser, Monday April 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the Humboldt Bronco Hockey organization.
Hosted in the Teton Lounge and open to the public, the meal will include pancakes and sausages for a free-will donation. All donations will go to the Humboldt Broncos organization and to the families directly affected by the tragic team bus accident.
On Friday, April 6th, a group of young men ages 16-21 left Humboldt, Saskatchewan on their way to a hockey playoff game in Nipawan, Saskatchewan. Before these gentlemen could make it there safely, they were struck by a semi-truck that injured 14 and killed 15 members.
WSC Sophomore and Teton Hockey player, Brandon Kayter is from Saskatchewan. "This hits so close to home, literally," explained Kayter. "I know so many people in the league and past league players. I have lots of close friends that knew or had special relations with some of the players lost in this tragedy. Not only us hockey players, but any sports team has been on that bus ride. We get on that bus and just expect to walk off. This is the unthinkable, 'our worst nightmare' as Mike Babcock from the Toronto Maple leafs stated. We just want to do our part here at WSC and try do something for these people affected by such a devastating moment in life. Any support is appreciated and all proceeds will be directly given to families in need. We are #HumboldtStrong."
Sophomore and fellow Teton Hockey player, Arren Romeril agrees. "This incident has brought tears and hurt to not only the hockey community but an entire nation," stated Romeril "The love and support shown has already had a huge impact on those affected in this unspeakable tragedy. We are standing together not as individuals but as a family, a family that will do anything to comfort and support those who have lost their lives and those who have survived. This small but large community needs our help and we will continue to do whatever we can to help the healing and ease the pain."
