Bethany Olson hired to lead bands at Williston State College

Posted: Jan 24 2011
WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College is pleased to announce that Bethany Olson has been hired in the music department.

"Bethany will be responsible for directing the City and College Band, and the Drum and Bugle Corps," said Herb Parker, Jr., of the WSC music department. "She will also give private lessons in brass and woodwinds."

A native of Minnesota, Olson graduated from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn., with a degree in music education. She has been employed by Trinity Christian School in Williston as its band and choir director for the past two years. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and playing the piano and clarinet.

"With the addition of Bethany to the music department, everything is now covered" as far as music lessons at WSC, Parker stated. "Chad Askim is working with percussion; I am doing voice and piano; and Bethany will be working with brass and woodwinds. Anybody playing any instrument can now take lessons here."

He did add that while there is no one teaching private lessons for strings at this time, "that will come."

"I was very honored to be asked to teach at Williston State," she said. "I am excited for the opportunity to work with college and community musicians."

Anyone interested in participating in the Drum and Bugle Corps, which is made up of percussion and brass instruments, or the city/college band, which include woodwinds, as well as the percussion and brass instruments, is welcome to join them. For more information, contact WSC at 774-4200.
