Williston State College (WSC) is proud to announce the Canadian Par Value Tuition Initiative, a new program designed to make U.S. higher education more accessible to Canadian students while maintaining robust financial support for local and regional students. Starting Fall 2025, Canadian citizens enrolling full-time in certificate or degree programs at WSC will be eligible for a Presidential Waiver that reduces tuition costs by up to 35%, based on the annual CAD/USD exchange rate.
A Win-Win for Canadian and Local Communities
“This tuition initiative is an innovative way to strengthen cross-border ties while ensuring our local students continue to receive the financial support they need,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of WSC. “We are making education more affordable for Canadian students without affecting scholarships for students in our region.”
Ashley Olson, Director of Enrollment at WSC, added, “This program opens doors for Canadian students while enhancing workforce development in industries like healthcare, technology, and agriculture. It’s a benefit to the entire region.”
How the Canadian Par Value Tuition Initiative Works
The Presidential Waiver applies exclusively to tuition costs, offering savings of up to 35%, adjusted annually based on the CAD/USD exchange rate as of July 1. The waiver does not cover fees, housing, or meal plans, allowing WSC to maintain its financial aid structure for local students.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Canadian citizenship.
- Full-time enrollment (at least 12 credits per semester) in a certificate or degree program, either onsite or online.
Program Highlights for Canadian Students
- Tuition Savings: Up to 35% off tuition costs.
- Convenient Location: Close to the Canadian border with online options available.
- Diverse Programs: Choose from career-focused fields like Cybersecurity, Business Management, Diesel Technology, Healthcare, and more.
- Supportive Campus Community: Personalized support for international students.
No Impact on Regional Scholarships
Local and regional students remain at the forefront of WSC’s financial aid efforts. The Canadian Par Value Tuition Initiative operates independently of WSC’s existing scholarship programs, ensuring regional students continue to benefit from generous financial support.
“This program reflects our commitment to serving the entire community while staying true to our mission of providing affordable, high-quality education,” said Dr. Hirning.
Strengthening Regional and Cross-Border Ties
By attracting Canadian students, WSC aims to address workforce shortages in key industries, foster cross-border collaboration, and contribute to regional economic growth.
