WSCF offers half tuition to incoming local students through new scholarship

WILLISTON, N.D. - The Williston State College Foundation (WSCF) has supported students in their pursuit of education for over fifty years. With over $1 million in scholarships to award annually, they have made certain that students at WSC receive an affordable, quality education. This fall the foundation has a new and exciting scholarship to offer to regional students - The Teton Promise.

The Teton Promise scholarship, which will be awarded to 100 area students, will pay half a student's tuition over the course of the next two years. And although the act of providing financial assistance can greatly increase a student's success, the Teton Promise goes one step further by requiring students adhere to specific criteria will receiving the scholarship.

"It's not just enough to assist students in enrolling and paying for college. We have a real obligation to make sure they achieve their goals and their time spent with WSC is as successful as possible," says Kayla McKeil, Director for Marketing. "The criteria we chose to include were done so based on best practices, research, and proven indicators for success."

To see a full list of criteria students must follow, visit www.willistonstate.edu/tetonpromise and click on "Terms and Conditions".

Students graduating with the class of 2014 in Williams, McKenzie, Mountrail, Burke, and Richland counties with a 2.0 GPA or higher will qualify for the scholarship. Even though this group of students automatically qualifies, they will still need to apply to receive the award.

To get the process started, individuals must apply for admission to Williston State College. Once they have applied, those who fit the qualifying parameters will receive instructions on how to apply for the Teton Promise scholarship.

There are only so many spots available per each county, so WSC Director for Enrollment Services encourages interested students to get started as soon as possible. "A student's chances of receiving the award are significantly increased if they complete an application for admission early, and are quick to follow through with the Teton promise application and their admission file," says Windnagle. "We are excited to work with students to complete these processes and to have them as students on campus in the fall."

While the Teton Promise will prove to be a great opportunity for many area students, the Williston State College Foundation urges all students to explore the numerous other scholarships they provide. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are still available and can be viewed by visiting the "Scholarship" section under "Financing Your Education" at www.willistonstate.edu
