The following is a message from Williston State College president, Dr. John Miller:
Dear Campus Community:
I am pleased to announce we will be able to continue contact tracing through a partnership with Williston State College, Dakota College-Bottineau, and Minot State University. MiSU has graciously offered the services of their trained contact tracers to follow-up on active cases from WSC students and/or faculty and staff to identify and work with close contacts of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing is an important part of our efforts to quarantine both COVID-19 positive individuals as well as close contacts in a timely manner, thus slowing the spread of the virus.
Even though the weather has turned blustery in the past few weeks, we continue to host weekly static testing events for COVID-19 on the campus of WSC, in partnership with the Upper Missouri Health Unit, Williams County Emergency Management, and the ND National Guard. COVID-19 testing has moved inside the Art Wood Building during cold weather and continues each Monday afternoon from 4:00 – 6:00.
With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I encourage all students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of the Monday COVID-19 testing events before you travel home for the holiday, and after you return to campus following the Thanksgiving Holiday. If you will be around your family and friends on Thanksgiving, I know you want to protect them as much as possible, especially those family members who are elderly or physically at risk, and pretesting before you travel is one good way to protect your family and friends.
Since the holiday season typically means students, faculty, and staff travel to spend time with family and friends, remember that when you travel, you are at greater risk to become infected with COVID-19 and to transmit COVID-19 to others. It is important to protect yourself and others with proper masking, social distancing, consistent hand washing/hygiene, and an awareness of where you are, the size of group you are in, and who is around you. Keeping yourselves and others safe during the COVID-19 pandemic is a responsibility we all share!
