WSC to Dedicate New Turf Fields at Kasmer and Aafedt Athletic Complex

Williston, ND — Williston State College will celebrate a historic milestone with the official dedication of its newly completed turf fields at the Kasmer and Aafedt Athletic Complex on , at 11:30 a.m. The improvements include upgrades to Rabon Field and Leininger Field, marking a major investment in the future of baseball and softball for both WSC and the greater Williston community.

The project originated in summer 2022, when local user groups came together and determined that synthetic turf fields were no longer a matter of “if,” but “how soon.” With an initial $2 million matching commitment from the Williston State College Foundation, fundraising began, and construction officially started on May 1, 2024. The $5.6 million project was supported by a wide range of partners, including the City of Williston, Williams County, the Williston Boys Baseball Committee, the Teton Booster Club, the Coyote Booster Club, the Coyote Boys Baseball Team, Williston Parks and Recreation, and many individual and corporate sponsors.

“These fields represent far more than an athletic upgrade—they represent the strength of collaboration in our community,” said Hunter Berg, Executive Director of the Williston State College Foundation. “From the beginning, this project was driven by the idea that our students and community deserve first-class facilities. Thanks to the generosity of countless supporters, we’ve been able to make that vision a reality.”

The new synthetic turf fields feature alternating green outfield stripes, updated dimensions for both baseball and softball, and durable playing surfaces expected to last 10 to 15 years. Already, the improvements have allowed WSC baseball and softball teams to set records for the most home games played in a single season.

“This dedication is about more than today—it’s about the future,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. “These fields will serve generations of student-athletes and community members, and we are proud to be part of something that makes such a lasting impact.”

The Dedication Ceremony on September 13 at 11:30 a.m. will welcome community members, donors, alumni, and student-athletes to celebrate the completion of the project and to recognize the shared effort that made it possible.
