Williston State College (WSC) has officially opened enrollment for its new Degree Bridge program, beginning with Dickinson State University (DSU) as its inaugural partner. The innovative partnership allows students to start at WSC, remain on the WSC campus, and seamlessly transition into select DSU bachelor’s degree programs—all without relocating or disrupting their educational momentum.

“Degree Bridge is about removing barriers,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. “We know many students want the flexibility to stay close to home while continuing their education. Through this partnership, they can progress from an associate to a bachelor’s degree—supported by both WSC and DSU every step of the way.”

Through co-matriculation, students enrolled in Degree Bridge are recognized by both institutions simultaneously. This structure allows them to take a strategic mix of courses from WSC and DSU that align perfectly with general education and upper-division requirements. The coordinated advising process ensures a smooth, supported transition into university-level coursework—typically beginning in year three.

Programs Available Now

The first available pathway is the Bachelor of Business Administration through Dickinson State University, with four in-demand specializations:

  • Accounting
  • Human Resource Management
  • Administration
  • Finance

These programs are designed for future accountants, analysts, HR leaders, and managers seeking a career-ready bachelor’s degree with the continued support and community connection that WSC provides.

Affordability and Access

While co-matriculated, Degree Bridge students benefit from partner tuition waivers or scholarships that honor WSC’s tuition rate per partner policy—making it one of the most affordable pathways to a bachelor’s degree in North Dakota. Students also retain access to WSC’s support services, campus resources, and community network throughout their academic journey.

“This collaboration truly embodies the North Dakota University System’s vision of connected, student-centered higher education,” said Scott Molander, President of Dickinson State University. “By working together, we’re giving students in northwest North Dakota the chance to achieve their educational and professional goals without sacrificing location, affordability, or quality.”

More Partners on the Horizon

Additional university partners—including Mayville State University, Valley City State University, and others within the North Dakota University System—are currently in development, with Degree Bridge pathways expected to expand in the coming years.

Local Advising and Support

An on-site DSU–Williston Site Coordinator and Advisor, Kelsey Hoerner, is available to help students explore degree options, review transfer plans, and guide them through the enrollment process. Students can reach Kelsey at (701) 502-4294 or kelsey.hoerner@dickinsonstate.edu.
