Weismann hired as instructor of communication at WSC

Williston State College is pleased to announce the hiring of Kim Weismann as an instructor of communication. She will begin her duties with the Fall 2010 semester later this month.
A native of Lefor, N.D., Weismann received her associate's degree from Dickinson State University in 2005, a bachelor's degree in communication from DSU in 2006, a College Teaching Certificate from North Dakota State University in 2007, and her master's degree in Speech Communication from NDSU in 2008. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in Education-Institutional Analysis at NDSU.
"I was a graduate teaching assistant at NDSU from 2006-2008," she said. "At NDSU I taught Persuasive Speaking and Fundamentals of Public Speaking. I then taught at Dickinson State University from 2008-2010. There, I taught Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Coaching Forensics, Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Persuasion, Argumentation, and Organizational Communication. I also was the Head Speech Coach at Dickinson High School for the 2009-2010 school year."
At WSC, she will be teaching Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Intercultural Communication. She also plans to introduce more communication classes as her career at WSC progresses.
A life-long love of speaking and the encouragement of a college professor helped Weismann with her choice of a career. "I always really enjoyed speaking and speech and while getting my undergraduate degree, one of my professors encouraged me to pursue a career in it," she said. She took his advice to heart and decided to teach on the collegiate level rather than high school level because "there is a little more freedom in the academic world than in high school," she said.
Weismann is a member of the National Communication Association, Central States Communication Association, Communication, Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota, and Pi Lambda Theta. She has been involved with her community as a 4-H leader and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
"I'm really excited about starting at Williston State," she said. "I think this school has lots of opportunities for the community. I'm looking forward to getting started and getting involved."
Weismann, her husband and their two dogs will be arriving in Williston before the start of the fall semester.
