WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College's PTK Honor Society will be going door to door Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for their Trick or Treat fundraiser.

Members of the organization will wear graduation caps and gowns and will go out into the community asking for donations in this 50-50 fund raising campaign.

"Of the funds raised, 50 percent will be used by our group to purchase our stoles and tassels for graduation, and the other half will go to the WSC Relay for Life team," said Kara Swenson, PTK president. "We're asking the community to help us help someone else - while helping us."

While this is the first time this has been done as a fund-raiser, Swenson said that the group is hoping it becomes an annual event.

Checks can be made to WSC and donations made are tax-deductible. PTK members will have receipts with them if requested.

The group has other fundraisers and projects in the works, including a Competitive Change Drive, which kicked off at the final home game of the Women's Volleyball team. "There are five sports teams here at the college," Swenson explained, "and we have five containers in which people can put the loose change out of their pockets - one for each team. The team who receives the most votes, or change, will be declared the winner."

The winning team will receive a prize and the teams who bring in less change will volunteer to clean The Well after a home basketball game. That effort runs through Nov. 4. Jars will be out at WSC home games through that time for people to donate and vote.

Also in the works is a social networking forum at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Teton Grill.

"Representatives from various businesses and organizations in town will come in and tell us their perspective on social networking and how it can be used effectively," Swenson said. "We see it as the Democratization of Information, which is the theme for the national PTK organization for this semester."

The event is free and open to the public.
