Grand opening of WSC residence hall scheduled Aug. 25

Posted: Aug 15 2011
WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College is pleased to announce that it has scheduled the Frontier Hall Extravaganza, a grand opening celebration, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 25, on the WSC campus.

From 3 to 7 p.m., a carnival-like atmosphere will overtake the college, with a mechanical bull, bungee bounce, moon bounce inflatable, Velcro wall, airbrush tattoos, caricature artist, spin art shutter shades, dry erase boards with personalized pictures. At 4 p.m. the grand opening ceremony will begin, with a free barbeque from 5 to 7 p.m., during which entertainment will be provided by The Islanders.

"They are a steel drum two-piece band from Orlando," said Kayla Retzer, WSC Student Life Coordinator.

After the meal is served, the band Kid Hollywood will perform at 7 p.m.

"They are a band that plays all types of music, from the 50's on up to current music," Retzer said. "We wanted to get them because we thought there would be lots of students here who would want some current music, and we believe there will be lots of alumni and people from the community who may want to hear some music from the past. Kid Hollywood will appeal to a wide range of ages."

All events will be held outside of the new residence hall, named Frontier Hall. With 170 beds, the hall will help with some of the housing challenges faced by the college with the housing shortage Williston is facing at this time.

The building features four floors, with three dedicated to rooms for students and the fourth floor built as a conference room. The third floor commons area also has a kitchen which is available to residents.

All events for the grand opening celebration are free and open to the public.

"This should be a really fun event," Retzer said. "We are excited to have everyone come out and see what we've been up to the past year at WSC. This is a really fabulous facility and we're proud to show it off."
