Affordable U.S. Education for Canadian Students

Williston State College (WSC) is making higher education more accessible for Canadian students with the Canadian Par Value Tuition Initiative. Starting Fall 2025, eligible Canadian students can receive a Presidential Waiver that reduces tuition costs by up to 35%, based on the annual CAD/USD exchange rate. This initiative allows students from Canada to pursue high-quality education in the U.S. at a more affordable rate—without impacting scholarships for local students.

How it Works

Who Qualifies?

Canadian citizens
Full-time students (minimum 12 credits per semester)
Enrolled in a certificate or degree program (onsite or online)

What’s Covered?

Tuition only, with savings of up to 35%, adjusted annually based on the CAD/USD exchange rate.

What’s Not Covered?

Housing, meal plans, fees, and other expenses.

Is this available for online programs?

Yes! Canadian students can take advantage of this tuition initiative for both onsite and online certificate and degree programs.

Students on a student visa and living in the U.S. must take at least 9 in-person credits per semester, making fully online programs unavailable to them. However, Canadian students residing in Canada can enroll in fully online programs without restrictions. For visa-specific enrollment requirements, students should consult Ashley Olson, WSC’s International Coordinator and Enrollment Services Director at ashley.olson.12@willistonstate.edu.

How is the tuition reduction calculated?

The discount is based on the CAD/USD exchange rate as of July 1 each year, ensuring fair and consistent savings for Canadian students.

How do I apply?

Apply for admission to WSC and indicate your interest in the Canadian Par Value Tuition Initiative during the application process.

Does this affect scholarships for local students?

No, WSC’s existing scholarships remain fully available for regional students. The Canadian Par Value Initiative is separate from scholarship funding.
