What services does the Adult Learning Center offer?
We provide the following services:

GED® preparation

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes

Adult Basic Education (ABE) support in reading, writing, and math

Pearson VUE testing on-site, including GED testing

College and career transition assistance
Who can attend classes?
Anyone age 16 or older who is not enrolled in a K–12 system and lives in Williams, McKenzie, or Divide County may enroll.
Is there a cost to enroll in the program?
No.
Where are classes held?
We currently offer classes in:

Williston: Williston State College, Western Star Building

Watford City: Bakken Area Skills Center (GED only at this time)
Can I bring my children to class?
Unfortunately, no. Childcare is not available at this time.
GED® Questions
How do I start GED classes?
The Adult Learning Center holds registration every 6–8 weeks, depending on class availability. These dates are posted on the homepage.
How long does it take to earn a GED?
Every student is different. Some finish in a few weeks; others take several months. Completion time depends on:
Do you offer GED testing?
Yes. We operate a Pearson VUE Authorized Test Center at the Adult Learning Center. Testing appointments are available weekly at our Williston location.
How many GED tests do I have to take?
There are 4 required GED tests to earn your diploma:

Mathematical Reasoning

Additional requirement:
If you are enrolled at the Adult Learning Center, you must also complete a 100-question North Dakota Civics Test, required by the ND Department of Public Instruction.
Can I take the GED test without classes?
Yes. Anyone can take GED tests with or without classes.
Recommended steps if you’re not enrolled:
Cost for non-students: $36 per test.
Can I get accommodations for the GED?
Yes. Accommodations are available (modifications are not).

We currently offer beginning and intermediate classes. You will be placed in the correct level based on your placement testing.
Do you have evening or flexible ESL class options?
Yes. We currently offer morning and evening weekday classes. Schedules may vary depending on student levels and program needs.
