WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College recently demonstrated its commitment to continuous improvement in industry relations and furthering gender balance in STEM careers by placing its first intern with Schlumberger, the leading technology provider to the upstream oil and gas industry.

Jennifer Householder, a Petroleum Production Technology (PPT) student at WSC, completed a six-week paid technician internship with Schlumberger during the summer of 2017. The internship included a complete company orientation, a range of safety training, opportunities for technical project work, and both team and customer communications.

"Jennifer is the first student from WSC that has been accepted into Schlumberger's Intern Program," observed Mack McGillivray, PPT Instructor at WSC. "Her success this summer has helped us strengthen the relationship between WSC and Schlumberger, and we look forward to more internship opportunities as a result of this initial success."

"Internships are an important way to provide students with exposure to industry practices, and an opportunity to build upon the skills they learn in college," said Richard Cartwright, technical account manager, Schlumberger. "In this case, Jennifer conducted petroleum, water, and microbial field sampling, as well as completing basic laboratory chemical analysis. Additionally, Ms. Householder supported Schlumberger account management activities."
